INSTITUTE COFFERENCE

Matt Chabot, AHC, President of Norwood Hardware and Supply in Cincinnati, Ohio, has been selected by the Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) as its 2008 Award of Excellence recipient. BHMA President Helen Rose will present Chabot with the award during the Door Hardware Institute (DHI) 33rd Annual Conference and Exposition in Boston, MA.

Now in its 20th year, BHMA presents the Award of Excellence to a distributor or hardware professional who demonstrates excellence in representing the needs of architects, contractors, users and manufacturers.

“Matt is consistently sought out by architects and end users for his high level of expertise on all applications, including access control systems,” said Ralph Vasami, executive director for BHMA. “He has built long-lasting relationships in the architectural community and has become a leading specification writer in Cincinnati and northern Kentucky.

Chabot has hired a full-time access control system expert to ensure that electro-mechanical products are applied correctly and functioning properly. Norwood Hardware also pre-installs BHMA hardware for general contractors to ensure proper functioning and ease of field installation.

Norwood Hardware opened in 1954 as a hardware store with an emphasis on door hardware. Today three locations provide customers a complete opening assembly which includes the door, frame and hardware.

BMHA is the only organization accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to develop and maintain performance standard for locks, closers, exit devices and other builder’s hardware. The widely known ANSI/BHMA A156 series of standard describes and establishes the features and criteria for specific types of hardware products. In addition, BHMA sponsors third-party certification of hardware products, which is a requirement for a product to bear the “BHMA Certified” mark – ensuring that the product meets the ANSI/ BHMA standard.
